You are able to install the Server Only installation of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8.0 on Windows Server 2008 in a client server environment only. .
To set up QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions for a client server environment follow the prompts to install the server only. .
From the QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Installation and Setup Guide click on Installation and Setup Guide (456k PDF Document) link and select chapter 3.

In a client /server environment it is important to have the following setup:
Share the folder that contains your Quickbooks company file and set its permissions to 'everyone' - Full Control.
- Set the NTFS permissions (on the security tab of the folder properties) to include all domain QuickBooks users or the QuickBooks user group (if group membership has been assigned) for Full Control.
- Add the appropriate service for your version to the NTFS permissions and allow Full Control:
- qbdataserviceuser18 (Enterprise 8.0)
- In Windows Control Panel, it is important set the following exceptions for the windows firewall:
- Add the QuickBooks Database Server Manager and port 10180. . Consult your Windows documentation for the correct procedure

QuickBooks 2009 and later (Premier, Pro)
The QuickBooks Pro and Premier 2009 and later versions will install on Windows Server 2008 using the Server only, Client only, or Sever and Client option. . However, neither QuickBooks Pro nor QuickBooks Premier has been tested in a Terminal Services environment. . For this reason, these QuickBooks versions are not supported in a Terminal Services environment, but will be supported using the Database Server Only configuration.
