What's new in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Simple Start 2007 and Enterprise 7.0

Overview

The following changes and improvements were made to QuickBooks Pro 2007, QuickBooks Premier 2007, and Enterprise Solutions 7.0 in releases R12, R11, R10, R8, R7, R6, R5, R4, and R3. . Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.

Release 12 (R12)

Help
  • The Upgrader Button is now available in QuickBooks 2007.
Payroll
  • W-2 forms have now beeen updated to print the correct year on each copy of the form.

Release 11 (R11)

Excel (Send reports to Excel)
  • Several enhancements have been added to the send reports to Excel feature.
File Operations
  • The Export to Lacerte Menu item is now available again.
Help
  • Help topics were updated to reflect the processing and settlement changes for Discover, JCB and Diners card under BankCard.
  • Help topics relating to Payroll Items for Assisted Payroll were updated.
  • Help content was added for the warning message "Direct Deposit Cutoff Has Passed."
Payroll
  • The workflow around creating the first set of paychecks for a new year was updated. . There is no longer a case where checks are not created or are created with incorrect tax calculations for the new year.
  • Bank account selections made via the provided drop-down during the pay employees workflow now take effect correctly when creating the paychecks.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an error message and closes when you select Yes to read a new message from the payroll service, and then try to send an Assisted payroll transmission.
  • The SDI rate no longer shows an incorrect effective date.
  • The messaging around back-dated or far-future dated Direct Deposit paychecks that are being created at the same time as Do It Yourself Payroll checks was modified. . Help Topics were also modified to clarify the process.
  • The Workers Compensation by Job Summary now correctly shows amounts in the Workers Compensation Premium and Adjusted Workers Compensation Premium fields.
  • The zero dollar E-payment message now spells dollar correctly.
  • The total in the earnings table now includes the amount of the Bonus payroll item. . Also, when all items are removed from the preview paycheck screen, the total is reset.
  • The add/edit service key window now includes a button to remove the service key. . This button only appears for customers who have not subscribed to Assisted Payroll. . It allows accountants who use their own service key to run payroll for client files to remove the key before sending the file back to the client.
Error Reporting
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the error code 1997687157 when sending forms.
QuickBooks Merchant Services
  • The Get Online Payments icon no longer be appears on the QuickBooks Home page when the company is not subscribed to QuickBooks Merchant Account Services.
  • Discover, JCB, and Diners cards now settle under BankCard.

Release 10 (R10)

Accountant's Copy
  • Accountant's copy changes now import correctly when an inactive account is activated and a sub account is added in the accountant's copy.
  • QuickBooks now correctly imports accountant changes after the Sales Tax Payable is edited.
Backup and Restore
  • QuickBooks can now successfully create backups of files larger than 2 GB.
Help

Installation
  • MSXML 4.0 has been replaced by MSXML 6.0.
Payroll
  • QuickBooks no longer automatically advances the dates for a payroll schedule after the first successful paycheck is created for the schedule. . There is a new checkbox on the confirmation and next steps screen that says "Do not advance the dates of this payroll schedule on the Payroll Center."
  • QuickBooks now allows a user to adjust the salary amount for an employee in the middle of a payroll run when that salary amount is split across multiple items.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays Unrecoverable Error 13741 78549.
  • Google Desktop Search now correctly displays payroll items in search results.
  • QuickBooks now prompts for a class when setting up or paying an employee for Workers Compensation.
  • QuickBooks now displays the warning for past dated Direct Deposits at the correct time.
  • QuickBooks now provides an option to not include sick/vacation hours paid in sick/vacation accrual calculation. . There is a new preference that must be un-checked to activate the new calculation.
  • Emailed pay stubs are now password protected.
  • The Payroll and Compensation Info tab of the New Employee screen no longer contains duplicated keyboard shortcut keys.
  • Paychecks now prints the net pay amount when it is 0.00
  • When the termination date is entered on the employee record before the termination workflow is started, the date is correctly copied to the termination wizard.
  • QuickBooks now checks for a valid bank account before starting the pay employees process. . This prevents getting stuck on step 2 of the pay employees workflow.
  • The Check numbers now increment correctly when paying employees.
  • The sort order no longer defaults back to the QuickBooks preferred order after it has been changed in the Pay Employees workflow.
  • Links in the centers, like "Renew my subscription", now work correctly when the customer is using disk delivery service.
  • The title of the More Information link near sub status is now more descriptive.
  • Overtime now calculates correctly even when the hours are brought over from a timesheet for an employee who does not have these hourly items setup on their employee record.
  • Disk Delivery customers can now perform some account maintenance tasks online.
  • QuickBooks no longer allows users to modify a liability check created by the service.
  • E-payments are no longer automatically marked as cleared when they are entered.
  • Typing over a deduction when editing a paycheck no longer causes the paycheck details screen to be blank and the check will not be saved as blank.
  • NJ forms no longer incorrectly show E-File for submit method. They cannot be E-filed.
  • QuickBooks now allows historical paychecks to be entered for a prior year under appropriate circumstances.
  • QuickBooks will no longer incorrectly indicate that the payroll bank account is missing or does not have adequate funds when the bank account in QuickBooks was merged.
  • The workflow for voiding a paycheck created with Direct Deposit has been updated.
  • QuickBooks now prompts for a bank account before allowing the user to save paychecks when an account has not been selected.
  • The Payroll Update Prompt now correctly downloads the payroll updates when necessary when the customer clicks OK.
  • QuickBooks no longer marks paid liabilities as unpaid when the data file has been through the data file cleanup process.
  • QuickBooks has been updated to display different tiers of services.
  • Direct Deposit fees are now included in the confirmation report.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an error when more than 64 pay items are used on a paycheck and the paycheck date is changed before the paycheck is created.
  • A rate is no longer assigned to time data for payroll items that are not set up for the specific employee.
  • For Assisted Payroll customers, there is now a link to related activities in the View Tax Forms section of the Payroll Center.
  • Several typographical errors dealing with the FL EFPT have been corrected.
  • The login text for IRS EFT enrollment has been changed.
  • Several Help topics have been updated.
  • QuickBooks now prints the tax amount even when the amount and the year-to-date amounts are 0.00.
  • The Beta notation has been removed from the MD unemployment filing and the WI WT6 filing.
  • When the bank account is changed in the enter hours screen the change is no longer lost when in the review screen.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an Inconsistent Data message when payroll items with old tax tracking types are used for Assisted Payroll.
  • The EFP history screen now shows the date the check was submitted and not the date the check was created in the Submit Data field.
  • Help Topics have been created or updated to include E-File and E-Pay information.
  • A Help Topic has been created to explain the new password protection on emailed pay stubs.
  • QuickBooks no longer incorrectly displays a message that the paychecks were created when they were not created because of duplicate check numbers.
  • When a liability check cannot be created because it is out of balance, QuickBooks no longer fails to create the subsequent checks in the list.
Printing
  • QuickBooks no longer prints only the header information for a journal entry when Save Transactions before printing it turned off.
  • QuickBooks will now enforce the closing date restrictions when modifying Journal Entries.
QuickBooks Error Reporting
  • QuickBooks no longer displays crash error 268442336.
  • QuickBooks no longer display crash error 1416904979.
QuickBooks Merchant Services
  • QuickBooks now masks the credit card expiration date on the merchant copy of receipts.
  • The funding status of refunds is now correctly updated when the Get Funding Status feature is used.
QuickBooks Online Billing
  • Paid invoices now correctly appear as paid when viewed online.
Sales Receipt
  • Sales receipts no longer block changes when using customized templates.
Users and Permissions
  • QuickBooks no longer displays Error Code 2090086737 when attempting to open QuickBooks.
  • The print and close buttons are available when viewing the permissions for a specific QuickBooks user.

Release 8 (R8)

Accountant's Copy
  • Exporting the changes for an Accountant's Copy no longer displays the incorrect message "Import Failed" when there are a large number of changes. . The changes were correctly exported. . Only the message was wrong.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the message: "Import Failed" and/or "There is a missing element" when importing or exporting an Accountant's Copy when changes to a Journal Entry are not entered correctly.
  • QuickBooks not longer quits unexpectedly during the import of accountant's copy changes when an employee was manually setup in the accountant's copy with new payroll items.
  • The import of accountant's changes no longer fails when the accountant has modified an account that the client had setup with the wrong tax line.
  • Payroll Liability checks can now be viewed in the Accountant's Copy.
Backup and Restore
  • QuickBooks now backs up the data (including a verify) faster than previous releases.
  • The Save a Copy or Backup wizard screens are easier to use and understand.
  • Automatic backup using the Quicker Verify option no longer fails.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays a message about saving the file to the hard drive when saving the backup to a CD.
Centers
  • Added e-file history access point to Employee menu.
Database
  • QuickBooks will no longer display Error Code 1077579057.
Database Server Manager
  • The database manager service no longer restarts after it has been disabled when using Windows Vista and the computer is restarted.
  • QuickBooks now connects to a company file that is being hosted on a computer using the Linux operating system. . This computer will need to be running the new Linux compatible Server Only version of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8.0. . The Linux option is only available in Enterprise Solutions.
  • QuickBooks now monitors Linux computers on the network to detect files being hosted by the new Linux compatible QuickBooks Database Server version.
File Operations
  • QuickBooks no longer fails to open a file when the path to the file is longer than 128 characters.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays a Runtime Error when using the Quickmath calculator in a Quantity field.
  • There is now an option to convert Office Accounting files into QuickBooks 2007.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the following crash errors: 25387, 22520, 2014596748, 2014598432, 18685, 14678, and 1453758480, and errors 1467223822 and 147
Help
  • The setup for QODBC no longer mentions the qodbc.exe file on the QuickBooks 2007 CD. . The file was not on the CD.

Install
  • QuickBooks Simple Start no longer displays an error about installing or configuring system components when installing from a download.
Invoices
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the error C=387 when re-creating a deleted Multiple Sales Order template.
Inventory
  • QuickBooks now correctly displays the decimal point when using Price Levels and Unit of Measure on an invoice.
Lists
  • The Custom Field information is no longer lost when you change the terms for a Vendor from the Bill screen.
  • QuickBooks no longer selects an incorrect job when you enter a customer and job on a sales form using the Autofill feature.
Payroll
  • Employee names no longer move around erratically in the Select Employees screen when you edit them.
  • You can now make a payroll schedule inactive if only inactive employees are assigned to it.
  • Medicare and SS can now be added or removed independently when creating/editing an employee's tax information
  • A corrected description of Tax Tracking type None.
  • Changing the paycheck date no longer causes paychecks to recalculate.
  • Improved performance when creating a single paycheck in files with many employees
  • QuickBooks no longer crashes when changing the paycheck date to 12/31/04 or earlier

Printing
  • The memo line on paychecks now prints on vouchers and pay stubs.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the message "Sorting labels" for an extended period of time when you try to print multiple labels.
  • QuickBooks will no longer put back the $0.00 amounts in the Invoice amount column when printing the invoice if they were removed.
Product Updates
  • The Repair operation in Add/Remove Programs will now complete successfully when using Windows 2000 and a software update has been installed.
  • QuickBooks now correctly asks to install product updates that were made available using the Share Download feature.
QuickBooks Online Banking
  • Online banking no longer experiences error messages or loss of functionality when the online payee list contains more than 4079 members.
Reports
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the message "update values: Sheet 0" and gets stuck in a loop when sending some reports to Excel.
  • QuickBooks no longer sends Formulas to Excel that contain sheet names. . This allows the cells to be moved and manipulated without the values becoming inaccurate.
  • The Transaction Detail by Account report no longer displays incorrect amounts when opened by double clicking on another report.
  • The Quantity on Hand on the Item list will now correctly match the Quantity on hand on an Inventory Item QuickReport.
  • Many QuickBooks reports now run more quickly.
SDK
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the following message when using integrated applications on Windows Vista "A Quickbooks Company data file is already open and is different from the one requested."
User Interface
  • The QuickBooks homepage no longer has problems with some display settings in Windows Vista.
  • Added Ctrl-K hotkey to access service keys.
  • The Payroll Center no longer moves after the first time it is launched.
  • The Ctrl + i keys now open the backup screen.
Users and Permissions
  • QuickBooks now correctly prompts the user to enter the closing date password when saving a General Journal entry while printing the form.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the error (-6129, -101) when switching QuickBooks to Multi User mode while using Fast User Switching.

Release 7 (R7)

Payroll
  • QuickBooks no longer creates paychecks for the wrong employee or creates incorrect paychecks after the pay period is changed.
  • When an employee is edited during the paycheck creation process, QuickBooks no longer loses the hours that were entered before the employee was edited.
  • Employees to pay no longer become unmarked when the pay period ending date is changed.
  • When changes to the hours for a selected employee are canceled, the employee is no longer removed from the list of selected employees and duplicates of other selected employees are no longer added.
  • QuickBooks no longer unexpectedly closes when deleting an employee while in the Pay Employee workflow.
Users and Permissions
  • QuickBooks no longer displays Error Code 2090086737 when attempting to open QuickBooks.

Accountant's Copy
  • Price level rounding cannot be changed from inside the Accountant's copy working file.
  • The View Changes screen in the accountant's copy now correctly shows new Job Types created by the accountant.
  • The accountant's copy changes now import correctly when a bill payment memo was changed.
  • The accountant's copy changes now correctly import when a Liability Adjustment type deposit is created by the accountant.
  • The accountant's copy changes now correctly import when the rate on a Sales Receipt is changed by the accountant.
  • The accountant's copy now correctly imports when Credit Memos were marked "To be emailed" by the accountant.

Backup and Restore
  • The Verify progress bar is now displayed during backup.
  • QuickBooks now allows backups to be scheduled to some types of removable media. . Backups still cannot be scheduled CD or 3.5" diskette drives.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the error (-6085, 0) when restoring a backup is canceled.
Database
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the error (-6098,5) when attempting to open a company file while using QuickBooks on a Windows Vista computer.
Database Server Manager
  • The correct DB engine version is now displayed on the "Database Server" tab in the DB Server Manager tool.
  • The updates tab of the QuickBooks database server utility now shows the release version of the server utility that is installed in the R# format. . Example: Release 10 shows as R6.##.
  • The QuickBooks server utility no longer starts as a program when Windows starts. . The server utility now runs as a service and the link to open it has been removed from the startup menu.
  • QuickBooks Database Server Manager no longer displays an error 404 when the link to check for an update is clicked.
  • The QB Database Server Manager no longer monitors drives when not in Hosting mode.
File Operations
  • QuickBooks no longer loses custom field information for Jobs updated from QuickBooks 2006.
  • QuickBooks now automatically displays files of type .QBA when opening a file.
Financial Statement Designer
  • In Financial Statement Designer accounts are now removed from the missing accounts list when they are added to the statement grid.
  • Financial Statement Designer now automatically convert the file to work with new version when the Reconnect to the existing Financial Statement Designer option is chosen.
  • Financial Statement Designer no longer shows the incorrect amount for Cash at Beginning of Period in the second column.
Form Templates
  • QuickBooks no longer displays an unexpected error when changing the column order on a new Purchase Order template.
Google Marketing Tools
  • The QuickBooks Google Desktop Search no longer stops responding when used in Multi User Mode.
  • The Google Desktop Installer can now be run inside QuickBooks when using Windows Vista.
Help
  • Product Information screen now correctly displays "1,000,000."
  • Improved Help Topics for Payroll.
  • Improved Help for e-file and e-pay.
  • New Help Topics have been added in the Payroll Center for Overdue Liabilities.

Installation
  • Installer no longer stops when HP Printer Utilities present. PDF Converter gets installed and transaction forms can be saved as PDF.
  • New reminders are now displayed after successfully installing the Automatic update.
  • The Resources folder is no longer required and has been removed from the installation CD.
  • QuickBooks no longer displays the QBW32.EXE abnormal program termination message when creating a new company file after uninstalling Google Desktop that was installed during the QuickBooks installation.
  • QuickBooks Simple Start will no longer display an error about installing or configuring system components when installing from a download.
  • The Credit Card Processing Kit will now correctly install on Windows Vista.
  • Windows Vista no longer displays a warning that the publisher could not be verified when running the manual update for QuickBooks 2007.
Invoices
  • QuickBooks no longer switches to the default shipping address on and invoice when the invoice is created from a Sales Order that was created with a different address.
Inventory
  • When double-clicking an assembly item from the reminders window, the Build Assembly window will now pre-populate with the item chosen.
Lists
  • QuickBooks no longer incorrectly allows names to be deleted from Timesheets.
  • Users can now use a previously deleted related unit abbreviation.
  • QuickBooks now creates equity accounts using the name Members instead of the name Partners when setting up a new file and choosing the LLC: Multiple Members option.
  • QuickBooks now uses the correct account numbers when creating accounts during company file setup if the Partnership option is chosen.
  • QuickBooks now displays the name in the Contact field for the Contact on a Customer or Vendor note unless the Contact field in the Customer or Vendor record is blank.

Payroll

Performance
  • There is now less delay when moving between fields on an invoice.
  • The invoice and bill forms now open more quickly.
  • QuickBooks now responds more quickly when editing a transaction in Multi User mode with the Reminders list open.
  • There is now less delay when saving a transaction that includes Undeposited funds in Multi User mode.
Printing
  • QuickBooks now remembers the last location used when saving a PDF file and uses that as the default location in the Save as PDF screen.
