Repairing or reinstalling Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0

The Microsoft .NET Framework is a Microsoft Windows software component that QuickBooks uses to run correctly in a Windows environment. If the Microsoft .NET Framework component is damaged or missing, it must be repaired or reinstalled.

To repair or reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework, select the option for your version of QuickBooks and Microsoft Windows:

If an error occurs while removing .NET, download and run the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool utility to remove .NET, download .NET from the links above, and reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, and 1.1 SP1.

QuickBooks 2008 or Enterprise Solutions 8.0 running on Windows XP

  1. Close all open applications.
  2. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
  3. Enter control in the Open field and click OK. The Control Panel window opens.
  4. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  5. Search the list of currently installed programs for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0:
    • If the program appears in the list, repair it:
      1. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, and then click Change/Remove.
      2. Select Repair, and then click Next.
      3. When prompted, restart your computer.
    • If the program does not appear in the list, install it:
      1. Insert the QuickBooks CD in your CD drive. If the QuickBooks installation window opens, close it.
      2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore.
      3. Browse to D:\ThirdParty\DotNET20, where D: is your CD drive letter.
      4. Double-click dotnetfx20.exe, and follow the prompts to install the software.

Note: If your QuickBooks CD is not available, you can download and install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 from the Microsoft Web site.

QuickBooks 2008 or Enterprise Solutions 8.0 running on Windows Vista

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 used by QuickBooks 2008 and Enterprise Solutions 8.0 is integrated with the Windows Vista operating system and cannot be repaired or installed independently.

Run the System File Checker (sfc) tool using the /scannow option. Running sfc will attempt to repair all Windows Vista operating system files, including Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. For more information about using sfc, refer to the System File Checker section of the Microsoft knowledge base article "How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista."

QuickBooks 2007 or Enterprise 7.0 and earlier versions running on Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

  1. Close all open applications.
  2. Open the list of currently installed programs:
    • Windows Vista:
      1. Click the Windows Logo button.
      2. Enter control in the Start Search field, and then press Enter. The Control Panel window opens.
      3. Double-click Programs and Features.
    • Windows XP:
      1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
      2. Enter control in the Open field, and then click OK. The Control Panel window opens.
      3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Search the list of currently installed programs for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1:
    • If the program appears in the list, repair it:
      1. Insert the QuickBooks CD in your CD drive. If the QuickBooks installation window opens, close it.
      2. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
      3. Enter (or copy and paste) the following command in the Open field, where D: is your CD drive letter:
        D:\ThirdParty\DotNET11\dotnetfx.exe" /Q /t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /qb /fvaum %temp%\netfx.msi"
      4. Click OK. If an error message occurs, verify that you entered the command exactly as it appears above.
      5. Restart your computer when prompted.
    • If the program does not appear on the list, install it:
      1. Insert the QuickBooks CD in your CD drive. If the QuickBooks installation window opens, close it.
      2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore.
      3. Browse to D:\ThirdParty\DotNET11, where D: is your CD drive letter.
      4. Double-click dotnetfx.exe, and follow the prompts to install the software.

Note: If your QuickBooks CD is not available, you can download and install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 from the Microsoft Web site.
