Error 1316: "A network error occurred when attempting to read from the file C:\windows\Installer\QuickBooks.msi."

The following error occurs when uninstalling QuickBooks:

1316: A Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\Installer\QuickBooks.msi.

This error can occur when QuickBooks tries to access the QuickBooks.msi file from the C:\Windows\installer folder and the file is either missing or damaged.

To fix this problem, copy the QuickBooks.msi file from the installation CD to the installer directory.

1. Insert the QuickBooks installation CD into the computer. 1316, . Close any installation screens that appear.
2. Right-click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Explore.
3. Browse to the location of the CD (usually drive D, E or F) and open the QBooks folder.
4. Find the file called QuickBooks.msi. 1316, . Right-click the file and select Copy.
5. Click the Windows Start button and select Run. 1316, . The Run window opens.
6. Type the following command in the Open field:
   
   %systemroot%\installer
   
   
7. Click OK. 1316, . A new window opens displaying the contents of the installer directory.
8. Paste the QuickBooks.msi file into the C:\Windows\Installer folder by right-clicking in the right pane and selecting Paste from the menu.
9. After the file is copied, close the Explorer window, and then uninstall QuickBooks.
