If the error still occurs after updating your program, follow the steps below.
- Ensure that the file is not encrypted:
- In Windows Explorer, right-click the file and select Properties.
- Click the General tab.
- Select Attributes, and then click Advanced.
- If encrypt contents to secure data checkbox is selected, the file is encrypted. 6189 -82 618982 error can't open company file, . Clear the checkbox and click OK.
- Open the company file; if the file opens successfully stop here, otherwise continue to step 2.
- Rename the Transaction Log File:
- Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore.
- Navigate to the folder containing your company file.

- Right-click the transaction log file and select Rename.
- Enter a new name, for example companynameOLD.tlg.

- Click Change sharing permissions.
- Under Permission Level for Everyone, select Co-owner.
- Click Share.
- Windows XP:
- Right-click the company file folder and select Sharing and Security.
- Click the Security tab.
- Click the QBDataServiceUserXX user to select it.
- In the Allow column, select Full Control.
- Click OK.
- Open the company file; if the file opens successfully stop here, otherwise continue to step 4.
- The company file is damaged.
- Restore a recent backup of the company file.
- If a recent backup is not available, contact Technical Support.
