Add your payroll service key

Important: Your payroll service key, which is provided when you subscribe to payroll, lets you use QuickBooks Payroll. . If you haven't already subscribed, determine which payroll service is right for you and then sign up. .

To add a service key, you must be subscribed to payroll and have a federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) entered in the Company Information window.

To do this task

1. If you haven't already done so, enter a federal EIN in your company file.

   1. Go to the File menu and click Company Information.

   2. In the Company Identification area, enter your Federal Employer Identification Number. . This is a unique 9-digit number (##-#######) assigned by the IRS to businesses operating in the U.S.

   3. Click OK.

2. Go to the Home page, click the Pay Employees icon, and then click Enter service key.

   What if my Home page icon says Payroll instead of Pay Employees?

   You are already signed up for QuickBooks Payroll.

   To enter a service key for a new level of payroll:

   1. Click the Payroll icon, and then click Payroll Center.

   2. In the Payroll Center, click My Payroll Service near the top of the window, and then click Manage Service Key.

3. Click Add in the QuickBooks Service Key window.

4. In the Service Key field, enter the service key you received when you subscribed to your payroll service.

5. Click Next and then click Finish.
