Company file is suddenly asking for a password

When the company file you are opening is suddenly asking for a password, one of these things may be occurring:

  • You installed a new version of QuickBooks

    When opening a company file for the first time in a newer version of QuickBooks, the company file must be updated and the administrator login window is automatically displayed. user permissions, administrator password, passwords, troubleshooting, . You must enter the administrator password when updating a file.

    Because the administrator is only required when updating a file, you may have been logging in to the file all along with a non-administrator user name and password, but now that the file is being updated, you must use the administrator's password.

  • You accidentally opened a different company file
