Turning a sales order into a work order

Work orders are special versions of sales orders that are used to let production know what orders are in and to help schedule order fulfillment. QuickBooks includes a special Sales Order template that has been modified to be used as a Work Order.

To modify the QuickBooks sales order to use it as a work order, you can:

  • Choose Work Order from the Template menu in the Sales Order window to use the form that has been customized so that information in the Cost column does not print.

  • Customize the sales order form or work order form to display or hide additional information as appropriate for your organization.

  • Print a copy of the sales order on brightly colored paper to use as a work order. This will help everyone distinguish between a sales order and a work order.
