Receiving commission payments from manufacturers

If you receive a check from a manufacturer which applies to more than one customer invoice, you should use the Receive Payments window to receive each invoice for each customer.

Use the Undeposited Funds account for these commission payments.

For example, you might sell the same product to two different customers. Your commission on each sale is $30, so the manufacturer sends you one check for $60. When you receive the payment in QuickBooks, enter the name of the first customer and apply a $30 payment for his invoice, then enter the second customer name and apply a $30 payment to that invoice.

If you have one invoice that includes products from two manufacturers (so you have received two checks), use the Receive Payments window twice—once to receive the first payment and again to receive the second manufacturer payment.
