Understanding service items and subitems

The way you set up your service items on your Item list depends on the services you provide and the information you want to show customers on a service invoice. Create a QuickBooks service item for each type of service you provide. You can then use these items when creating invoices in QuickBooks. You'll also be able to see reports that show your revenue for each service (or item) you provide.

If you want to track your services in more detail, use a combination of QuickBooks items and subitems. The following example shows an item with three subitems that could be used to invoice corporations or individuals based on a sponsorship level:

Sponsorship (Item)

  • Diamond Circle (Subitem)

  • Gold Circle (Subitem)

  • Silver Circle (Subitem)
