Invoice customers for a fixed fee

If you plan to charge a customer a fixed fee for a service (for example, preparation of an individual income tax return), create the invoice as usual. When you choose the service from your Item list, you can edit the amount shown in the Rate column as necessary.

Some customers and jobs may warrant a "fixed fee plus adjustments" arrangement. You can create an "other charge" type item called "Adjustment" to use on invoices.

You can track the costs of a job as you go. Even when you cannot pass through expenses to a customer, it's important to know how much you're spending.
