Recording credit card payments on a sales receipt (Merchant Service)

If you have a merchant account with the QuickBooks Merchant Service, you can enter a sale and immediate payment in the same way you enter payments by cash or check.

Note: If you are using an Accountant's Copy of a company file, you cannot process credit card payments.

The steps you follow to record and process a credit card payment depend on whether you are entering the credit card information manually or swiping the card.

Important: You should always swipe the credit card when you have it in hand, even if you already have the credit card information from a previous transaction. Only by swiping the card will the transaction be classified as card-swiped and eligible for a lower discount rate.
