Sign up for Assisted Payroll

To do this task

  1. Review the checklist to ensure that you've gathered everything you need to sign up for QuickBooks Assisted Payroll.

  2. Sign up for Assisted Payroll either via the Internet or by telephone.

    Signing up via the Internet

    You can sign up for the service or convert to QuickBooks Payroll from another integrated payroll service through the QuickBooks Payroll web site.

    Signing up by telephone

    To sign up by telephone, Go online contact the payroll service.

    A service representative will collect some basic information from you and provide you with a payroll service key, which you use to complete the sign-up process.

    Note: Assisted Payroll is not available to all employers in all areas. Discuss your options with a payroll service representative before continuing with the signup process.

  3. Use the payroll setup interview to set up your payroll in QuickBooks.

    If you've already set up your payroll or are upgrading from another QuickBooks Payroll Service, go to the Employees menu, click My Payroll Service, and then click Change Payroll Service options.

  4. Check your payroll data for missing or inaccurate information.

    During this part of the interview you will:

    • Review your payroll data.

    • Review wage and tax amounts.

    • Reconcile tax forms.

  5. Send your payroll data file to the service.

    At the end of the interview, go online and send your payroll information (using your payroll service PIN) to the payroll service.

  6. Back up your QuickBooks data.

    We recommend that you back up your data frequently so you can still do payroll, should something happen to your computer or data site.
