Choose a filing method

On the Choose a filing method page of the QuickBooks 1099 Wizard (Vendors > Print/E-file 1099s), you can choose either of these filing methods:

  • Print your Forms 1099-MISC on preprinted form paper and file them by mail with the IRS.

    Print 1099-MISC
  • Use the Intuit 1099 E-File Service to file your Forms 1099-MISC electronically with the IRS and to print copies on plain paper for your files and to send to your 1099 vendors.

The Intuit 1099 E-File Service supports the same Form 1099-MISC boxes that QuickBooks supports. And for certain states, the IRS shares your e-filed information with the state agency, simplifying your state filings.

    Before you start

    • If the Intuit Sync Manager has been previously installed to sync data for the current company file, you must be signed in to QuickBooks on the computer where the Sync Manager is installed.

    • Since the Intuit 1099 E-File Service runs in a browser window inside QuickBooks, you must have Internet Explorer 7 or 8 installed on the computer.

    • You must be logged in as the QuickBooks Administrator.

    • You must be in single-user mode.

If you have prepared your 1099 information without these conditions, you can Save & Close the 1099 Wizard, correct the conditions, open the 1099 Wizard again (Vendors > Print/E-file 1099s), click Continue to the last page.

    To do this task

    1. Click Use Intuit 1099 E-File Service.

If the Intuit Sync Manager is already installed, you may see a message while your company information is synced.

    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to:

      • Set up an Intuit Account for the Intuit 1099 E-File Service.

      • Set up the Intuit Sync Manager (if it's not already set up) and sync your QuickBooks information with the Intuit 1099 E-File Service.

      • Connect to the Intuit 1099 E-File Service where you can review your 1099 information, print copies for yourself and your vendors, and e-file your Forms 1099-MISC with the IRS.
