Choose an industry similar to your own

You choose an industry so QuickBooks automatically turns on some features that you might find useful. However, if you don't see your industry on the list, don't worry. Just follow these steps:

  1. Scan the list one more time to find an industry similar to yours. Here are some examples.

Try to select an industry that functions like yours, one that has similar relationships with customers and vendors.

    If your business is:

    You could choose:

    Food service-related

    Restaurant, Caterer, or Bar

    Massage therapist

    General Service-based Business

    Medical, Dental, or Health Service

    Web page designer

    Design, Architecture, or Engineering

Again, don't worry if you don't find one.

  2. If your business or organization fits two categories, for example, consulting and information technology, choose the one that represents the largest part of your operations.

  3. If you don't find a match, scroll to the bottom of the list and choose either General Product-based Business or General Service-based Business.

  4. If you sell both products and services, choose General Product-based Business.

Remember, this choice simply provides an idea of what features you might need. You can always turn features on or off through Preferences later.

    To display the Preferences window:

    1. Choose Edit > Preferences > Desktop View.

    2. On the Company Preferences tab, change the QuickBooks features.
