Manage payment methods

Use this window to add new payment methods to your Payment Method list, edit or rename existing payment methods, assign a Payment type, or make a payment method inactive.

Why create payment methods?

Creating your own payment methods can be useful. You might, for example, name a payment method Traveler's Checks, and assign it to the Check payment type. This way, it will be displayed when you choose to view payments to deposit by the Cash and Check or by the Check payment type.

For payment methods other than credit cards, such as barter payments, use the Other payment type.

To add a new payment method and payment type

  1. Go to the Lists menu, choose Customer & Vendor Profile Lists, and then click Payment Method List.

  2. Click Payment Method at the bottom of the list and click New.

  3. Enter a payment method and payment type and click OK.

  4. To make a payment method inactive, click Payment Method at the bottom of the list and click Make Inactive.

The payment method will no longer appear in the Payment Method drop-down list.

Select or clear the Include inactive checkbox as appropriate.

You can also create a new payment method from the Receive Payments window or from the Enter Sales Receipts window.

To rename a payment method and payment type

  1. Go to the Lists menu, choose Customer & Vendor Profile Lists, and then click Payment Method List. Double-click the payment method that you want to edit.

  2. Edit the payment method and payment type and click OK.

  3. Select or clear the Method is inactive checkbox as appropriate.

If you select the checkbox, the payment method will no longer appear in the Payment Method list.

To make a method inactive

  1. Select the Method is inactive checkbox.

The payment method will no longer appear in the Payment Method list.
