To work with a QuickBooks company file, you must have Windows permissions for
the shared folder where the company file is located.
If you receive an error that you don't have sufficient permissions for the
folder, ask your system administrator to make sure that the folder is shared on the network and to give users permissions to
change the files in the folder.
Note: Only a user with Windows administrator privileges for the computer where the company file is located can complete these steps.
Windows 7 or Windows Vista
Locate the folder containing your QuickBooks company file.
Right-click the folder and choose Properties.
Click the Sharing tab.
Click the Share button.
In the File Sharing window, enter the name you want to add, or use the drop-down arrow to select the user. Then click Add.
Be sure to give QBDataServiceUser access
Note: The specific QBDataServiceUser for your version of QuickBooks also needs Read/Write access to the folder containing your QuickBooks company file. Repeat step 5 to add the QBDataServiceUser for your version of QuickBooks, if it isn't already listed.
