Track profitability by job types

You can assign a job to a specific type of work, then produce a Profit & Loss report and sort it by job type. You can then decide if you want to refocus your marketing or other efforts in the direction of your most profitable types of work.

To do this task

  1. Choose Reports > Company & Financial > Profit & Loss by Job.

  2. Click the Customize Report button at the top of the report.

  3. Click the Display columns by drop-down arrow on the Display tab and then click Total only at the top of the list.

  4. Click the Filters tab.

  5. In the Filter list, click Job Type.

  6. Click the Job Type drop-down arrow and then click the job type to analyze.

  7. Click OK.

    This report gives you the total amount of income and expense by a specific job type. The report will not include any projects or jobs that don't have a job type entered into the Job Type field.

    To analyze this report, run a separate report for each job type and then compare the Gross Profit or Net Income for each type. The report with the highest gross profit shows the type of work that you might want to focus your marketing efforts towards in the future.
