What is the unit cost of an item?

The value used as the unit cost varies depending on the item type and how the item was defined. Follow the steps below to find or change the unit cost for a particular item.

To do this task

  1. Click Home.

  2. In the Company section, click Items & Services. Shortcut

  3. Double-click an item to open it in the Edit Item window.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • For a service item, look at or change the amount in the Rate field. However, if the This service is used in assemblies or is performed by a subcontractor or partner checkbox is selected, look at or change the amount in the Cost field of the Purchase Information section.

    • For an inventory part item, look at or change the amount in the Cost field of the Purchase Information section.

    • For an inventory assembly item, look at or change the amount in the Cost field (the one that is not in the Bill of Materials table).

    • For a non-inventory part item, look at or change the amount in the Price field. However, if the This item is used in assemblies or is purchased for a specific customer:job checkbox is selected, look at or change the amount in the Cost field of the Purchase Information section.

    • For an other charge item, look at or change the amount in the Rate field. However, if the This item is used in assemblies or is a reimbursable charge checkbox is selected, look at or change the amount in the Cost field.

  5. Click OK to record a change, or click Cancel to close the window without recording changes.
