Change the way a form looks

You can change the appearance of an invoice, estimate, sales receipt, or other form by modifying its template. You can modify an existing template, or copy an existing template to create a new one and then make changes.

To do this task

  1. Open the Basic Customization window.

    Open the Basic Customization window
  2. Click the Manage Templates button, and then click each template in the list to see what it looks like in the Preview section of the window.

    If you don't see one you want, you can download more for free from the QuickBooks Template Gallery. Be sure to click Open (not Save) when you download a form from the template gallery to ensure that is appears in your templates list.

    Note: Templates for preprinted forms usually begin their names with "Intuit." You can make only limited changes to these types of forms.

  3. Once you've selected a template, you can make changes to it or copy it to create a new template.

    1. Click the Copy button.

      The form appears in the Select Template list with the words "Copy of:" in front of the name.

    2. In the Template Name field on the right side of the window, rename the template.

    3. Click OK to save the template with the new name and return to the Basic Customization window.

  4. Use the Basic Customization window to:

  5. From the Basic Customization window, click the Additional Customization button to make further changes such as adding or removing fields.

  6. Preview your changes in the window to see how your form will look when printed. Click the Print Preview button to see a larger preview.

  7. To change the location of any fields in the form, click the Layout Designer button to lay out your form.

  8. Click OK to save your changes.

    You can now select this template to use for your forms.

    To select the template click the drop-down arrow at the top right side of the form.
