Reasons for hiding an account
If your chart of accounts is too long because you have a lot of inactive
accounts in it, you can hide those accounts to shorten the list. This won't
reduce the total size of your chart of accounts, but it will make the
list easier to manage. When you hide an account,
QuickBooks keeps the information associated with
the account, but hides the account on the chart of accounts and
removes it from any drop-down lists that use accounts.
You can reactivate (show) an account or see all accounts at any time.
To do this task
Click the Lists menu, and then click Chart of Accounts.
Click the account you want to hide.
Click Account at the bottom of the list, and then click Make Account Inactive.
