You can use QuickBooks without assigning tax line mapping. In fact, we recommend that you don't use tax line mapping if you're not an accountant or tax professional.
If you are a tax professional (or are advised by one), you can use tax line mapping to:
Export tax information to tax-preparation software (for example, TurboTax)
Run an Income Tax Preparation report.
How do I change the list of tax line mappings?
Choose Company > Company Information.
Click the Income Tax Form Used drop-down arrow and select how the company is organized (Sole Proprietorship, Corporation, and so on).
Note: Selecting the correct mappings is important and can be complicated. Remember, we only recommend this for accountants or tax preparers. You can use QuickBooks without assigning any tax lines.
If you plan to export your tax information into one of these tools, see the
instructions for using tax lines where you'll find more examples to help you decide which tax line to use.
If you're still not sure, ask your accountant.
