No Sound When Recording a Transaction in QuickBooks Desktop

You may not hear a beep when recording transactions if you don't have the right hardware or your preferences is not set up correctly.

How to fix it

To hear the beep when recording a transaction, you must have at least one of the following:

  • An internal speaker (this is a single internal speaker used for system sounds)
  • External speaker (including built in speakers in laptops)
  • Headphones plugged into a working sound port

 

Quick Tip
You can also verify the volume of your speaker and sound card.

 

To set the QuickBooks Desktop preference:

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Choose General and select My Preferences.
  3. Put a check to Beep When Recording a Transaction box.
  4. Click OK to close the Preferences.
