No Sound When Recording a Transaction in QuickBooks

You may not hear a beep when recording transactions if you don't have the right hardware, your preferences aren't set correctly, or if your harware isn't set up correctly.

How to fix it

To hear the beep when recording a transaction, you must have at least one of the following:

  • An internal speaker (this is a single internal speaker used for system sounds)
  • External speakers (including those built into some laptops)
  • Headphones plugged into a working sound port

To resolve follow the steps below:

  1. Start by going to the Edit Menu in QuickBooks.
  2. From the Edit Menu select Preferences.
  3. In the preferences window select General from the preferences column.
  4. In the General Preference select the My Preference tab.
  5. In the My Preference tab put a check mark in the Beep When Recording a Transaction box.
  6. Click OK to save and close.
If this does not resolve the issue;
  1. Verify computer sound and speaker volume.
  2. Check sound card
Many sound cards come with software that allows you to configure and test sound card settings. Check the information that came with your sound card. You can also check and test your speaker configuration using Sound.
  1. Open Audio Devices and Sound Themes by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Sound.
  2. On the Playback tab, select the device that you want to test, and then click Configure.
  3. Select your speaker configuration, and then click Test.

If this solution does not resolve the issue, you can read discussions and post messages and questions relating to your issue on the Intuit QuickBooks Community site. You can also review other available QuickBooks support options for additional guidance.
