PDF creation fails on Windows Server 2012

If you are running the full installation of QuickBooks on Windows Server 2012 (Standard or Essentials), you may be unable to reconcile accounts, create, or email .pdf files.

Solution:  Set correct permissions to XPS driver

This issue occurs on the Windows Server 2012 operating system and is a problem with the operating system itself.  The following troubleshooting steps are for the Windows operating system, which is not an Intuit product. If you are not comfortable doing these steps on your own or does not resolve the issue, Intuit recommends you contact Microsoft for further assistance.

  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool in Windows Explorer.
  2. Right-click on Printers and choose Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Type Local Service and press Enter.
  7. Make sure Local Service has Full Control, then press OK.
  8. Open QuickBooks and try to create/email a .pdf file.
