Error “The Intuit Data Protect service (QBIDPService) is not running” when setting up IDP

This happens when the QBIDPService and/or IBUEnghost are not running.

How to fix it

Start and run the QBIDPService and the IBUEnghost.exe services.

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Enter services.msc in the Search field.
  3. The Services window opens.
  4. Right click QBIDPService.
  5. Select Start.
  6. Close the Services window.
  7. From Computer/ My Computer, follow the path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect.
  8. Double click IBUEnghost.exe to run.
    Note: Sometimes a command prompt opens and closes immediately.
  9. Try again to set up IDP.
