IDP Backup process appears to succeed but no files have been backed up

Intuit Data Protect (IDP) shows Backup Succeeded, but when checking the Restore Backup window, no files appear on the list.

This happens when a Windows upgrade assigns the company file to a new location, and IDP is unable to find it. IDP cannot automatically detect the location of the company file on computers that have been upgraded from XP to higher Windows versions.

File location before upgrade:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files

File location after upgrade:
C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files
Note: This only applies to upgraded computers. This does not apply to new computers.
How to fix it

The company file must be manually opened using QuickBooks Desktop so that IDP can recognize the location equivalent to the location from the old version of Windows.

  1. Close the IDP window.
  2. Open the company file using QuickBooks.
  3. Press F2 on the keyboard to open the Product Information screen.
  4. Take note of the location of the company file.
  5. Close Company/Logoff.
  6. Open the company file again by browsing to the location shown in the Product Information window.
  7. Select the files that you wish to backup and try the IDP backup again.
