Error: Unable to get accounts

When designing a new statement in QuickBooks Statement Writer, you receive an error message stating "Unable to get accounts"

How to fix it
  1. Go to List > Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right click on any account in the list and select Edit Account to see if the account number is present in the Account Name field.
  3. If the account number appears in the Account Name field, edit your QuickBooks preferences to use account numbers:
    1. Click on Edit > Preferences to open the preferences window.
    2. In the window on the left, select Accounting, then click on the Company Preferences tab.
    3. Under the Accounts section, place a check mark in the box next to Use account numbers.
    4. Click OK.
  4. Re-sort the Chart of Accounts.
  5. Run the Verify Data Utility.
  6. Open QuickBooks Statement Writer and generate your report.
