Many types of networks are in use today to run QuickBooks. Not all of them will run QuickBooks Desktop effectively. QuickBooks Desktop Technical Support cannot provide support for these environments beyond basic program configuration. Even if the program is configured correctly for multiple users, Intuit cannot guarantee performance on networks other than the recommended ones.
If you are just setting up your network, or if QuickBooks is running slowly, use this article and these resources:
Bandwidth = (File size x 8) / (time x 1024)
QuickBooks Desktop requires a bandwidth of more than 40 Mbps. If your bandwidth calculation is less than 40 Mbps, your network connection has insufficient bandwidth to support QuickBooks Desktop. You need to identify and resolve the bottlenecks.
Antivirus and internet security programs are critical tools in maintaining the health and security of your computer. There is, sometimes, a cost in performance due to the computer resources these applications use. These resources are shared by all programs, including QuickBooks. Here are few maintenance tasks you can perform to minimize the negative effects on your computer and on QuickBooks. Note: Please be aware that Intuit does not support firewall and anit-virus programs. Please contact your program provider for help you with installing and setting up your program.
Competing programs can use RAM that QuickBooks Desktop can use to run faster. Shutting down unneeded applications and processes can enable the operating system to allocate more resources to QuickBooks Desktop.
