Microsoft office document customization: this document contains custom codes that cannot be loaded

When opening a Statement (.qsm) with QuickBooks Statement Writer, the following error appears:

This document contains custom code that cannot be loaded because the location is not in your trusted location list [QSM file name].  If you trust this document you can save and open it from a location on your computer.

How to fix it
  1. Open QuickBooks Statement Writer (QSW)
  2. Click on Preferences & Formats.
  3.  From General Preferences, highlight, right click and Copy the path in the Reports field.
  4. This will be pasted later in Step 9.
  5. Open Excel 
    • In Excel 2010
      1. Click the File tab.
      2. Choose Options on the left.
      3. Continue to Step 6.
    • In Excel 2007
      1. Click the Microsoft Office Button  image.
      2. Click Excel Options at the bottom of the page.
      3. Continue to Step 6.
  1. In the left pane, click the Trust Center, then click Trust Center Settings on the right side of the window.
  2. Click Trusted Locations in the left pane. 
  3.  If your QSW save location is on a network, click the Allow Trusted Locations on my network (not recommended).  
  4.  Click the Add New Location button to the right.
  5.  Paste the new path that was copied in Step 3.
  6. Click the Subfolders of this location are also trusted check box; this will include the the Default location for the QSW Templates folder.
  7.  (Optional) In the Description Box, type what you want to describe the purpose of the trusted location.
  8.  Click OK three times to close out the windows to Excel.
  9. Close Excel.
  10. Open QSW and open a statement
