QuickBooks has stopped working when restoring a backup file

When you restore a backup file in QuickBooks Desktop, you see the error:

QuickBooks has stopped working.

Why this is happening

This error may be caused by:

  • Damaged directory
  • Folder location issues
  • Corrupted folder location
How to fix it
  1. Move the .QBB file to the desktop.
  2. Use Open or Restore File in QuickBooks.
  3. Select to Restore a Back Up File.
  4. Select to restore the .QBB file from the desktop.
  5. Save the new .QBW file to the desktop.
  6. If error continues confirm that a .QBW file was not created on the desktop.
  7. If .QBW file has been created directly open that file.

If the file restores successfully, then you may choose to move the .QBW to a new location and restore once again.
