Error: Unable to add item to the list; when you change an Other Name to a Vendor

The error indicates that your lists are damaged.

How to fix it

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Use standard data damage trouble shooting.

Solution 2: Edit/Merge Name

  1. Determine if you can change any Other Name to a Vendor. Try several different ones as you may be dealing with a damaged Other Name.
     
  2. If you find that only some names give you an error:
    1. Edit the name to repair it.
    2. Merge the old name into a new name.
       
  3. If neither editing or merging the names resolved the issue:
    1. Create a new vendor with a similar name.
    2. Run a Quick Report on the damaged other name.
    3. Double click on each transaction for the damaged name and edit them using the new vendor name.
    4. Once all of the transactions are out of the damaged other name, delete it.
