Error syncing Outlook Contacts into QuickBooks Desktop

When syncing contacts from Outlook into QuickBooks Desktop, you get the following message:


Why this is happening

When contacts that have a category are synced to QuickBooks, QuickBooks sees the category as a note but the note field is blank.

How to Fix It

Solution: Add a Note in Outlook.

  1. In Microsoft Outlook, edit the contact that failed to sync.
  2. Type the name of the category into the Notes field.*
  3. At the top, click the Save & Closebutton.
  4. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Utilities then Synchronize Contacts.

The contact sync should now complete successfully.
