Sync Manager Error code: 5_8888

When attempting to setup and run Intuit Sync Manager, the message displays: Error Code 5_8888.

Why is this happening

Sync Manager Error code 5_8888 indicates that there is a problem accessing your company data.

This error could be caused by data integrity with your company data or there is not enough free disk space for Sync Manager to complete the sync process.


How to fix it

Intuit recommends to possible solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve  your problem or you may need  to try both solutions to resolve the issue.  For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Verify that drive C:\ has at least twice the free disk space as the size of your QuickBooks company file.

  1. To find the size of your company file: Open your company file and press the [F2] key to display the Product Information screen.
  2. To find the amount of free disk space Select Computer from your Windows start button.

Solution 2: Run Verify Data to check the integrity of you QuickBooks company data.

  1. To run Verify Data: From the QuickBooks File Menu, select Utilities > Verify Data
  2. If Verify Data fails, follow the on screen instructions to Rebuild your company data.
  3. Try to sync your data again.
