Error: Username or password is invalid when connecting to Online Banking in QuickBooks for MAC

You have recently changed your banking password.  When you attempt to connect to online banking in QuickBooks for MAC, the following message displays:

Username or password is invalid.

Why this is happening

In QuickBooks, you enabled the option Add password to Keychain when you initially set up online banking. This causes QuickBooks to attempt to use a previously saved password when you connect to online banking.

How to fix it

To resolve the issue, you need to delete the previously saved password and re-launch online banking.

Here's how:

  1. On your desktop, double click the Mac HD icon.
  2. Go to Application and select Utilities.
  3. Select Keychain Access.
  4. Search for your banking password and delete it.
  5. Close and then reopen your company file.
  6. Go to Download transaction then click Download all.
  7. When you are given the option to enter your password, type your current password.
  8. QuickBooks should now connect to your bank and download transactions.

If you need to reset the Keychain Access password:

  1. On your desktop, double click the Mac HD icon.
  2. Click the Application folder and choose Utilities.
  3. Open Keychain Access and chose Edit.
  4. Click Change Password  for Keychain login.
  5. Enter your current Keychain password in the top box.
  6. Enter your new password in the 2nd box and the 3rd box.
  7. Click Ok.
