QuickBooks web browser freezes, displays a javascript error, or times out using online banking

When signing in to your bank's website from within QuickBooks to download a webconnect file (.QBO), one of these errors occurs:

  • Various javascript errors when hovering the mouse cursor over a button
  • "Your online session has expired" or "timed out" after clicking the button to sign in.
  • The window hangs or freezes after clicking the button to sign in.

How to fix it

Important: If you experience this issue with your American Express account, please skip Solution 1 and use Solution 2.

Solution 1: Press the enter key to log in instead of using the mouse to click.

Solution 2: Make sure javascripts are enabled in Internet Explorer:

  1. Click the Tools menu and select Internet Options. (In Internet Explorer 10, click the gear icon in the top-right of the window and select Internet Options)
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Select the Internet zone and click Custom Level.
  4. Scroll through the list of settings and find the section titled Scripting.
  5. Find the option for Scripting of Java Applets and make sure it is Enabled.
  6. Click OK and then click OK again.
  7. Try downloading the Online Banking statement again.

Solution 3: Download the Web Connect file from a web browser outside of QuickBooks and then import the file into QuickBooks
