Email address for Customers, Vendors and Employees are grayed out or clicking the link opens blank

Email addresses in the Customer, Vendor and Employee Centers are grayed out, and the link appears to be inactive. Email cannot be sent from the Centers.

Or, when you click on the link displaying the company name (for example Send to: Peter Harbin Contractor), it opens in Outlook but the email address is not carried over.


What you can try now

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.  

Workaround 1 - If the name appears as Send to: Peter Harbin Contractor:

  1. Edit the name profile and enter an email address in the Email field.
  2. Click OK to save.
  3. Click the link showing the email address.

Workaround 2 - If the email is grayed out

If you want to send an email using QuickBooks and the email is grayed out, perform the following:

  1. Select the name in the center you want to send an email and create a new transaction.
  2. Make sure the History tabs are displayed.
  3. In the Summary  section, click the email address.
