When you open QuickBooks you see the following error:
You must use "Turn windows features on or off" in the Control Panel to install or configure Internet Explorer 8.
QuickBooks will now exit.
Please switch Internet Explorer 8 ON and try again.
This issue occurs if QuickBooks detects that Internet Explorer 8 or later is not available. This can occur if Internet Explorer has been disabled or if some Internet Explorer registry keys have been damaged.
System Mechanic has a component that is designed to clean up the computer's registry in order to improve performance. Iolo recently released an update in mid-December 2011 that may have affected the registry keys that it is designed to remove. This may affect the Internet Explorer registry entry required by QuickBooks to run successfully.
Please follow the steps in this Iolo help article to add the following registry key to the exclusion list for System Mechanic:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\IEXPLORE.EXE Or
If the 'Wow6432Node' folder is not an option, add this registry key to the exclusion list:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\IEXPLORE.EXE .
Once the exclusion has been set up, follow the steps to disable then re-enable Internet Explorer.
