Intuit Sync Manager error: Unable to start Sync Manager

When attempting to setup Intuit Sync Manager you receive the message: Unable to start Sync Manager. Contact QuickBooks Technical Support.

Why this is happening

Intuit Sync Manager has not completed updating to the latest version.

How to fix it

Rename the Intuit Sync Manager folder:

  1. Close out of any QuickBooks software you currently have open.
  2. Exit Intuit Sync Manager:
    1. Right-Click the Sync Manager icon in the System Tray.
    2. Select Exit Sync Manager.
  3. Locate the SyncManager folder and rename it to SyncManager.old:
    • Windows 7 and Windows Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Intuit\SyncManager
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Intuit\SyncManager
  4.  Start QuickBooks and open Intuit Sync Manager:
    • Click on File > Sync > Show Sync Status.
      • Note: This process will prompt Sync Manager to create a new folder to replace the renamed folder and install the appropriate updates.

  5. Click on Sync Now to start the sync of your company data.
