Error: Intuit Sync Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close

You try to set up Intuit Sync Manager and you get the following error:

An error has occurred: Intuit Sync Manager needs to close because it is missing the required dependency SyncmanagerClientLib.dll. Please re-install QuickBooks.


Why this is happening

Intuit Sync Manager could not find a necessary Sync Manager program file on your system. 

This error may occur when upgrading from one version of QuickBooks to another.

The error will result when Intuit Sync Manager does not install properly with the new version of QuickBooks.

How to fix it

Intuit Sync Manager needs to be reinstalled, then set up again.

  1. Right-click the Sync Manager icon, located in the Windows system tray, and select Exit Sync Manager.
  2. Open the Start menu, and select Computer.
  3. Browse to the following location:
    • Windows Vista/7: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks [version]\Components\SyncMgr\OCD
  4. Hold Ctrl + A, to select all the files within the folder.
  5. Hold Ctrl + C, to copy the contents within the folder to the clipboard.
  6. Paste the contents of the OCD folder to:
    • Windows 32-bit C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\Sync
    • Windows 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Sync
  7. In QuickBooks, open the Online Services (Online Solutions in QBES) menu and select Setup Intuit Sync Manager.
  8. Proceed through the setup process.
    Important: When prompted, select replace existing files.
