Item Sales Price or Rate rounds down to nearest dollar in QuickBooks for Mac

When creating or editing an item with a Sales Price/Rate contaning cents (example: $1.80), the item is saved with a Sales Price/Rate that is rounded down to the nearest whole dollar.

Why this is happening

This is caused by a setting within the Language & Text System Preference, in which the comma symbol (,) has replaced the decimal point symbol (.) as the indicator for decimal places.

How to fix it

To correct this:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
  3. Select the Language & Text preference.
  4. Select the Formats tab.
  5. Within the Numbers area, click Customize.
  6. Under Number Separators, change the setting to match the following:
    Decimal:
     .
    Thousands:

  7. Click OK to save the changes.
  8. Exit the System Preferences window.
  9. Open QuickBooks.

The Item Sales Price/Rate can now be edited and saved to reflect both dollars and cents.
