File not part of Intuit Data Protect

Under the Back Up status box on the Quickbooks Desktop home page, the status shows "File not part of Intuit Data Protect," and your company file is not listed in your backup list.

Why this is happening

It is possible that you have not yet backed up this company file.

If you are seeing this with a company file that you have previously backed up with Intuit Data Protect, it is possible that it is backing up a copy of the file and not the original file.

How to fix it

Solution: Use the IDP Cleaner tool to clear the cache and the MRU (most recently used files) list.

  1. Close all instances of QuickBooks Desktop, then right-click the Intuit Data Protect icon in the System Tray and select Exit Intuit Data Protect.
  2. Open Task Manager and verify IBuEngHost.exe and IntuiDataProtect.exe are no longer running. End task on either or both if they are still running. You may need to select Show all processes for all users to see these.
  3. Ensure that you have your Intuit App Center (IDP subscription) account information (User ID and Password) available.
  4. Download and run the IDP cleaner tool to clear the cache and IDP registry entries.
    1. Click the IDP cleaner tool link above.
    2. In the File Download - Security Warning dialog box, click Save and save the tool to your desktop or a location on your system where you can find it.
    3. After the download completes, double-click the icon to run the tool.
    4. Important: To clear the MRU (most recently used file) list, hold the Shift key down while running the tool.
  5. Restart the QBIDPService.exe
    1. Click the Windows Start button, select Run, enter Services.msc, and press Enter.
Note: If you do not see the Run command, try simultaneously pressing the Windows logo and R keys to open the Run window. Then type Services.msc and press Enter.
    2. Highlight QBIDPService.exe.
    3. Right-click, then choose Start or Restart.
  6. Open QuickBooks and click View Details or Activate to restart Intuit Data Protect.  You may need to sign in with your User ID and Password.
  7. Re-setup your backup with IDP.

Important: If you see an Internet Explorer error when you click the link for the IDP Cleaner Tool, please right click the link, select Save Target As, and save the .exe file to your desktop.  You can then run the tool from there.
