Running the .NET Checker for issues with .NET Framework

Problems with the Microsoft .NET Framework can cause QuickBooks Desktop not to open or other odd behavior with the program opening, installing, or general use.

Microsoft has a tool called the .NET Checker that allows you to check whether the .NET Framework on your computer is working or not working.
How to fix it
As the .NET Verification tool is a non Intuit product, Intuit recommends that you consult a qualified IT professional for running the .NET checker and fixing possible problems with .NET Framework.

Versions of .NET Framework that QuickBooks Desktop uses

  • QuickBooks Desktop 2017: .NET Framework 4.6
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2014 -  2016: .NET Framework 4.0/4.5

Repairing .NET Frameworks

Repairing .NET Framework versions can be challenging, especially due to heavy restrictions in Windows 7 and Vista. It is generally best to consult a Windows-trained professional to repair your system. Intuit recommends always having a professional, certified Windows technician assist in repairing Windows components such as .NET Frameworks.

If you want to try repairing the .NET Frameworks yourself,  refer to the Repair or reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework article.
