Intuit Printer Library: The form you are about to print does not fit on the page

You may see this error when printing from QuickBooks Desktop:

Title: Intuit Printer Library Message: The form you are about to print does not fit on the page. You may wish to modify your print settings such as portrait/landscape. Click OK to print anyways, or Cancel to skip printing this form.

This may occur if the paper size or orientation in your printer's settings are different than QuickBooks Printer Setup. It may also occur if the template is sized incorrectly. Most QuickBooks forms default to letter size paper and portrait orientation.

Solution Description

Solution 1: Make sure your settings match

  1. From the QuickBooks File > Printer Setup.
  2. Then choose the form you are trying to print from the list.
  3. In the Printer Setup window, click the Options button.
  4. The next window depends on the software your printer uses. You will usually find the paper size and orientation on a tab labeled: Paper, Page Attributes, etc.
  5. Make sure your printer is set to print on letter size paper and portrait orientation (unless you've customized your form to print on a different size or orientation).
  6. Click OK in your printer's window.
  7. In the Printer Setup window, click the Printer Type drop-down arrow select the option that matches your printer (continuous feed printers are less common).
  8. Click OK in the Printer Setup window.

Solution 2: Correct a template's paper size (Forms include Sales Order, Invoice, Sales Receipt, Purchase Order)

  1. Make a note of the template selected for the current transaction.
  2. Go to the Lists menu and select Templates.
  3. Double-click on the template to display the "Basic Customization Window".
  4. Click the Additional Customization button.
  5. Click on the Print tab.
  6. If the setting 'Use specified printer settings below for this (form name)' is checked, make sure that the paper size is correct. If not, you will need to modify the the template's layout. Click on the Layout Designer button to modify the layout.
  7. If  the 'Use (form name) Printer settings from Printer Setup' is marked, click on 'Use specified printer settings below for this (form name)' and check the printer settings.
