QuickBooks Desktop freezes while entering the activation code to register

When the activation code to register QuickBooks Desktop is entered the program freezes, the activation code window does not go away and there is no error. Once QuickBooks Desktop is frozen you must use the Windows Task Manager to end the program, after restarting QuickBooks, the program is still not registered.
This may be casued by some third party components that QuickBooks Desktop is dependent upon sometimes become damaged, or are sometimes not installed properly.
How to fix it

Intuit recommends 3 solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all 3 to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Uninstall or reinstall Microsoft Visual C++

Solution 2: Repair or reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework

Solution 3: Reset the entitlementdatastore.ecml file

Note: There are multiple versions of these Windows components that are typically installed, the articles describe which version of these components impact your version of QuickBooks. In some cases multiple versions of these components will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
