Unrecoverable Error when updating a QuickBooks for Mac file to QuickBooks for Windows

When trying to restore a QuickBooks for Mac backup file in QuickBooks for Windows, you may get Unrecoverable Error: XXXXX XXXXX (Where XXXXX XXXXX is a random code)
How to fix it

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Create a new copy of the file to be converted

  1. Create a new folder on the desktop of the windows computer.
  2. Copy the new backup file (.qbb) to the new folder.
  3. Restore the backup, but tell it to create the new .qbw to the same temporary folder on your desktop.

Solution 2: Check for Data Damage

  1. Restore from an earlier backup on the Mac side, then create a new backup for Windows (QBB) and try again.
  2. If restoring an earlier backup fails, troubleshoot data damage using QuickBooks for Mac.
  3. After resolving data damage, create a new backup for Windows and try again.
