Transaction processing failure when processing a credit card

You attempt to process a credit card transaction in QuickBooks Desktop and when you click Save and Close, you get the message:

Transaction processing failure The remote servers response reported an error. Try again later. If the error continues, contact QuickBooks technical support.

This message is usually a result of the the card types in the Payment Method List being set up as cash.

How to fix it

In the Merchant Service Center, check to see if the transaction has been processed. If it has not, complete the following steps in QuickBooks Desktop.

  1. From the Lists menu, select Customer & Vendor Profile Lists and click Payment Method Lists.
  2. Highlight the card type and from the Payment Method drop-down, click Edit Payment Method.
  3. Change the Payment Type from cash to the proper matching card type name.
  4. Repeat these steps for each card type.
  5. Run the transaction again. You should no longer get an error message.
  6. If the error persists, contact Merchant Services at 1-800-558-9558.
