Unable to back up the data file before rebuild in QuickBooks for Mac

Cannot back up the company data file before performing the rebuild process.

Damage to the company data file may also affect the backup process in QuickBooks.

It is strongly recommended to backup the company data file to the hard disk instead of some removable media in preparation for rebuilding a data file. If you have not already done so, try to make a backup to the hard disk.

How to fix it
Important: Never rebuild a data file unless you have made a backup copy, or you are rebuilding a copy of the data file. If you cannot back up or make a copy contact the Technical Support team.
If you are still unable to create a backup, copy the company file manually, and then rebuild the company file copy (not the original).

To copy the file:
  1. Locate your QuickBooks company file.
  2. Exit QuickBooks.
  3. Select the file, and then from the Finder File menu, choose Duplicate.
  4. A copy of the file will be created in the same location and will be named “[your file name] copy”.
  5. Open the copy of the file and attempt to rebuild the copy of the data file, by holding cmd+option+shift while clicking on Rebuild.
Holding cmd+option+shift before you click Rebuild Data will omit the backup process prior to rebuilding the data file. This step should only be performed after a manual back up (or copy) of the file has been done.
