Home Page displays different account balances than the register or COA

Your Home Page displays a balance that does not match the account register or Chart of Accounts (COA) list.

This can happen if the company data file has either list or transaction damage.

How to fix it
Step 1: Create a new QuickBooks user

Our best information to date is that a new QuickBooks user needs to be created with only one role. Use the new user to enter transactions instead of the (old) user associated with the damaged transactions. Only the QuickBooks Administrator can add a new user. Adding new users must be done in Multi-User mode.  After creating a new user, continue to Step 2.

  1. From the Company menu, hover the mouse over Users to view the additional options. Select Set up Users and Roles.
  2. In the Users and Roles window, click New.
  3. In the User Name field, add a name. If you choose, you can add ande confirm a password.
  4. Select a role from the Roles window. Click the Add button. Click OK.
  5. Click Close in the Users and Roles window if the assigned role needs no additional modification.
  6. To edit or modify the role for the new user:
      1. In the Users and Roles window, click on the Role List tab.
      2. Select the role to edit from the Roles area and click Edit.
      3. Add or reassign permissions as needed and click OK.
      4. In the Users and Roles window, click Close.
Step 2: Rebuild your data file
  1. Run the Rebuild Data utility.
  2. If the issue is not resolved, and additional troubleshooting is needed, Check the Qbwin.log file for error messages.
