Names on reports display incorrectly

There are multiple causes for names displaying incorrectly on reports. This issue can occur with any report (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, General Ledger) and with any type of name (accounts, vendors, customers, items, classes and all types of list items).
Important: If names are completely missing from a report, do not use this document, but follow this KB SLN40127 instead.
How to fix it
  1. Find the name that is displaying incorrectly in its list (for example, if an account is displaying incorrectly, go to Lists > Chart of Accounts and ensure that the account name is correct - if a customer name is incorrect, go to Customers > Customer Center and ensure that the customer name is correct)
  2. If the name is incorrect, correct it
    • Right-click the name
    • Enter correct information
    • Click OK
  3. If an account number is missing on the report, follow these steps
  4. If names on the report are still incorrect, resort the name list
  5. If the issue persists, make a backup of the company file
  6. Merge the name with a new name:
    • Create a new name (call it Name 1, for example)
    • Change the old name to the new name
      • Important: Do not change the new to the old name and merge - this will not repair a damaged name
    • When prompted to merge the names, click Yes
    • Change the name again, as desired
  7. If the report still displays the name incorrectly, Verify Data and resolve any issues discovered
  8. If the issue is still unresolved, create a portable company file and restore it
  9. Contact technical support if the issue persists.
