A Server error occurred while updating the branding files

While accessing Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop, the following (or similar) errors occur:

  • A Server error occurred while updating the branding files
  • An error occurred in the secure channel support
  • A Server error occurred while updating the branding files! We're sorry, the server is experiencing an internal error. Try again now or wait and try later. Error Code: XXXXXXXX
    • Error code: xxxxxxxx is a generic HTTP error that basically means a connection error has occurred on the server side but cannot be identified.
Solution Description
  1. Ensure that your security programs are configured to allow QuickBooks Desktop access to the Internet.
    a.  Follow Firewall and Internet security settings for updates and network access for program and port list.
  2. Reboot the server or workstation where the QuickBooks Desktop company file is stored.
  3. If using a wireless connection, test by connecting directly to the modem or router.
  4. Restart Windows in Safe Mode with networking or Selective Startup to eliminate potentially conflicting software and drivers.
  5. If available, test the connection from another computer and/or outside of the existing network.

Note: If a QuickBooks Desktop repair works until the computer is restarted, it's possible your Antivirus or Firewall may be making changes to certain QuickBooks Desktop installation components. Examples would include modifying, deleting or putting into quarantine certain components or .dll files that are restored during a repair or reinstallation of the program. Please contact the Antivirus/Firewall manufacturer to resolve.
